Netzwerkaufbau
Bei der Stern-Topologie handelt es sich um ein Netz, an dem alle Stationen mit einem zentralen Knoten verbunden sind. Dazu wird ein Hub wie ein normaler Rechner an eine Bus-Architektur angeschlossen, bzw. verläuft der Bus innerhalb des Hubs.

Neben der einfachen Realisierung liegen die Vorteile einer solchen Anwendung in der Erweiterbarkeit eines vorhandenen Netzes. Es kann ohne einen Ausfall des Netzes eine Station zugefü gt bzw. entnommen werden. Weiterhin wird bei einer defekten Leitung nur die Kommunikation zur betreffenden Station beeinträchtigt und somit die Ausfallsicherheit des gesamten Netzes deutlich erhö ht. Mit der Stern-Topologie kö nnen sehr leicht administrativ zusammengehö rende Gruppen gebildet, in hierarchischen Ebenen zusammengefasst und baumartig vernetzt werden.
Bei der Baum-Topologie handelt es sich um eine Struktur, die fü r größ ere Netzwerke z.B. Unternehmen oder Gebäude eingesetzt wird. Dabei werden verschiedene kleinere Netzwerke beispielsweise ü ber Router hierarchisch wie ein Baum (Ä ste, Zweige und Stamm) miteinander verbunden.
