Феноменологические и функционалистские подходы к оценке нейротехнологий рассматривают тело как расширяемое (с позиций enacted cognition). Критика социального конструирования тела и его когнитивных ролей (с позиций embodied cognition) отталкивается от разделений, вносимых в концепт универсального тела.
