Заключение
Восстание Виндекса сыграло важную роль в событиях конца правления Нерона. Оно не только стало отправной точкой для всплеска открытого недовольства императором, завершившегося низложением одиозного правителя. Оно впервые в истории империи с очевидностью показало, что основная часть западных провинций Рима достаточно глубоко втянута в общую социально-политическую ткань империи и может иметь серьезное значение в решении таких судьбоносных для государства вопросов, как вопрос о претенденте на императорский престол. Несмотря на то что сам вдохновитель восстания погиб, главная цель его выступления оказалась достигнута: Нерон был низложен, а высшая власть передана сенатом Гальбе. Любопытной особенностью событий можно, повидимому, считать тот факт, что в ходе восстания обнаружилось несколько парадоксальное для жителей провинций усвоение представлений о хорошем правителе как римском аристократе со старинными римскими нравами.
Образ Виндекса в античной традиции, как представляется, несет отпечаток различного понимания значения его деятельности современниками и потомками. С одной стороны, подчеркивается, что Виндекс был удостоен похорон за государственный счет и римляне чтили его память как одного из борцов против тирании, а с другой что его выступление положило начало кровопролитной гражданской войне и сложному для империи году «четырех императоров».
