Poverty of the population as a social reality of modern society: the main approaches to evaluation
The article is devoted to the analysis of the problem of poverty of the population in modern Russia from the point of view of the methods used and approcLches to the assessment of this social phenomenon. The characteristic of the official methodology for estimating the poverty level of the population based on the correlation of the income of the population and the subsistence minimum (monetary method.) is presented,, as well as a possible variant of the evaluation through measuring the level of deprivation (deprivational method). The main approaches to the interpretation of the very concept of poverty (absolute and relative poverty) are considered, as well as some concepts explaining the complexity of measuring poverty as a social phenomenon.
The article presents the results of the poverty assessment based on official statistics, expert assessments and the results of sociological surveys, including in the region.
