It is my view that all movements, sounds, and utterances made by a copulating couple in the course of their performance greatly heighten their rapture and whet their sexual appetite.

Two gulls making love.

There are noises of love that have actual meaning, such as "Mother," "Father," "Lover," and those that express prohibition, sufficiency, desire for liberation, pain, praise, ecstasy, and so on. To these may be added sounds like those of the dove, cuckoo, pigeon, parrot, bee, sparrow, flamingo, duck, quail, and other animals.

pressed, and love-making is a great opportunity for sharing emotions through sound. Animal noises are sometimes spontaneously sounded during intense loving and these are given mystical significance in Eastern texts. When animal noises are consciously created, emotional blockages can be released effectively. Through animal noises, personality limitations are more easily transcended and the switching of active and passive roles is aided.

In the Ananga Ranga, there are references to particular kinds of sound known as Sitkriti:

"An inarticulate sound produced by drawing in the breath between the closed teeth." This type of love-sound is said to be the particular prerogative and privilege of women and is divided into five distinct kinds likened to the cry of the quail ("Hun! hun! hun!" or "Hin! hin! hin!"), the Indian cuckoo ("Ha! ha!" or "Han! han!"), the spotted-necked pigeon ("Shan! shan!" or "Shish! shish!), the Hansa goose ("T'hat! t'hat!") or the peacock ("T'hap! t'hap!"). If a woman can bring herself to make these sounds at the time of love, rather than the more usual uncontrolled or worldly sounds and exclamations of Western habit, then she can gain control over her ecstasies and channel love energies in a meaningful way. The imitation of bird sounds creates a sympathetic bond with these airborne species and helps send the energy flying upward.

Tantric texts refer to the use of subtle sounds and Mantras for controlling and channeling the sex energy. The powerful Tantric Mantra " O M - A H - H U M " can be used for this, either externally as love-sounds or internally (in the mind) for protective and focusing purposes. This Mantra can be used a number of ways: linked to alternate shallow and deep strokes ( " O M " shallow, " A H " deep, " H U M " focusing of energy becoming more and more subtle), to the breath ("OM" inhale, " A H " retain, " H U M " exhale), or just verbally intoned by both partners as a harmonizing influence. These sounds can also be visualized as opening up the psychic centers of the head, throat, and heart, respectively. When used internally (in

the mind), this Mantra should follow the rhythm of breath, and when sounded, the strokes of Love. In practice, the couple can find their own system of correlations between the elements listed in the table below.

When using this Mantra, both partners should imagine spirituality descending into the centers of the head, throat, and heart. In the heart center, the sound " H U M " emanates outward, vitalizing every part of the physical and Subtle Body. Visualized as dark blue waves of ecstasy, the sound " H U M " nourishes the unity and spiritual integrity of the couple. Tantric texts refer to humming sounds that a female Yogi (a Yogini) can make to release transcendental energy from the sexual center. They are particularly effective when the woman takes the active role during love-making. This humming should be modulated, like that made by a flying insect approaching flowers. It serves to focus the mind and initiates a state of resonance with the Kundalini-power within. Let this humming become your carrier wave through the alchemy of ecstasy.

There are many Mantras that can be used to help control and focus sexual energy. The Mantra " O M - B H U R - B H U W A H - S W A " is an evocation of the Three Realms (this world, the next world, and Eternity), and is effective in establishing spiritual direction in a love-rite. The Mantra " O M - A H - H U M -

cult lineage.

earth, water, fire, air, and space, evoked in that order for the resolution of bodily imbalances or impurities and for opening up the psychic centers.

The sounds " E H " (the transformatory power of the navel center) and "VANG" (the distilling power of the water element) combine together as a single Mantra, "EH— VANG," which expresses the unity of the solar and lunar powers of the psyche. Imagine the sound "EH," blazing up at the navel center, burning up all negativity and physical impurities. Visualize the sound "VANG," cooling and flooding from the head center, washing away all psychic and intellectual limitations. The Mantra "EH - VANG" is effective in resolving dualities and empower-

ing the couple with pure transcendental emotion. This powerful Mantra evokes the unity of Wisdom-energy and spirituality. As the Advayavajra states, " E H - V A N G " comprises everything. A person who understands the meaning of this Mantra has understood all and everything."

Tantra teaches that the emotions can be purified and exalted by correct use of Mantras. It really is very simple to perfect these Mantras and apply them to the Art of Love; there is no surer way to consciously gener-

ate ecstasy. The movement of the breath during love-making finds release through Noises of Love, which may be either loud or soft, depending on temperament. Some people hardly make any sounds when making love, preferring to bask in silence; others derive great pleasure from expressing Noises of Love consciously or spontaneously. Try to incorporate natural sounds, Mantras, and positive endearments into love-making, transforming the Noises of Love into ecstatic harmonies.

The sacred syllable "EH," adorned by the syllable "VANG," is the abode of all delights. From "EH—VANG" the Four Joys arise.

oral erotics

Westerners have only recently begun to view oral sex as acceptable and natural. Yet mouth kissing has always been taken for granted in the West. In India and China, the kiss is considered the epitome of eroticism. As such, it is practiced in absolute privacy. Indian movies have only just started to show mouth-to- mouth contact on the screen.

The love, comfort, and nourishment we receive as babies sucking at our mothers' breasts initiates the chain of association between oral gratification and sex. The relationship of eating to sex is also well known to psychology. That Westerners have recently become infatuated with oral-genital sex may well be due to the modern tendency to switch from breast to bottle feeding of children. Nevertheless, the mysteries of oral-genital sex, so well developed in the East, warrant exploration from a transcendental viewpoint.

The subtle and unforgettable aroma of the sexual organs and their secretions should be appreciated and enjoyed. In the animal kingdom, the sense of smell is an important element in mating rituals. Nature designed the

musky sexual odors as a virilific and for encoding emotions. The combination of lovejuices with saliva produces a unique, chemically charged bond that has both physical and magical properties. When oral-genital lovemaking is practiced, the Upper and Lower energies can be successfully exchanged and circulated. This is the Tantric and Taoist view of oral eroticism, which has much to add to our limited Western viewpoint.

In Oriental cultures the Yoni is considered the most sacred part of a woman's body, and is not viewed as unclean. In this Japanese illustration of oral-genital sex, the man honors the Yoni and at the same time channels energy through the feet of his partner, so increasing her enjoyment. She should have him suck her Lotus and show his pleasure. Inhaling the odor, he should enter with his tongue, searching for the Red and White secretions. Then she should say to him, "Eat my essence! Drink the Waters of Release! O Son, be a slave as well as a father and lover!"

become pleased and grant every ecstasy; when the Kundalini rises upward, all the psychic centers of the Subtle Body become illuminated. By giving the best, you receive the most; the Yoni opens herself up and reveals all her secrets.

Hindu texts state that the different ways of kissing the Yoni should be learned from the methods of m o u t h kissing. Shaykh Nafzawi, author of The Perfumed Garden, points out that, like the mouth, the Yoni has two lips and a tongue. The Kama Sutra states, "Mouth congress is allowed by the lawbooks, but should be correctly practiced. Just as the udder of a cow is considered exalted at the time of milking, so should the Yoni be viewed at the time of bringing the mouth to it."

The Yoni is always highly honored in Tantric rituals. As the doorway through which all humans must pass, the Yoni is also considered as entrance to both the past and the future. In the Chandamaharosana Tantra, the sex initiatress is instructed to squat naked before the man and indicate her Yoni with her forefinger, and say to him, "I am your royal mother, your formal wife and mistress. Look at this lotus-flower of mine, decorated with a stamen at the center. It is the Pleasure Field of Heaven. Numerous are the times that you have emerged from it. Can you kiss and lick this secret place without disgust or lust? Are you prepared to taste the R e d and White? Are you a hero, or a newborn child?"

Oral sex performed on the Lingam is categorized in detail in the Kama Sutra. Eight variations are listed:

always a possibility of semen emission. There was a taboo against "careless loss of life essence." In the Vasisthadharmashastra, a Hindu lawbook, it is stated, "When sexual intercourse is performed in the mouth of one's wife, then it is the ancestors who eat the seed that is emitted." The Tantric view is that semen can be potentized through having sex without ejaculation, and that every emission of semen should be a conscious rather than an involuntary act.

Semen contains amino acids, trace elements, and minerals. When a man follows a

healthful diet and lifestyle, the semen takes on a sweet taste and has a pleasant, palatable consistency. A woman should honor the Lingam of her lover as the Original Shiva Lingam, the Male Principle. Approaching in the spirit of awe and reverence, she should use her mouth as a second Yoni. Rhythmi - cally sucking the Lingam in a relaxed and spontaneous way, she will be able to take it deep within her throat without fear of gagging. Through this practice, a woman can honor and please her lover, receiving his emission as a bodily sacrament.

This type of posture is known as The Crow. It is an important aspect of Tantric love-play.

When a man and woman lie down in an inverted order, with the head of the one toward the feet of the other, and in this position carry on with their love-making, then it is called The Posture of the Crow.

the crow/"69"

The sexual position commonly referred to as "69" in the West is termed The Crow in Hindu texts. This is an inverted position, with

oral-genital contact b e t w e e n man and

woman. It can be practiced with the woman lying down and with the man on top; with the woman on top; in a standing position; and in a number of side postures. It is a pleasant aspect of foreplay and has a harmonizing effect on the body. The Crow is also a po - tent sexual posture of the Tantric tradition, used for potentizing and circulating sexual energy.

In the enigmatic language of alchemy, the crow symbolizes the transcendental power of dissolution. Crows have always been viewed as mystic birds and omen-carriers; their unique metabolism allows them to digest poisons without harm. Tantric Yogis consider crows metaphysical allies, able to convey information through their movements and sounds. Crows are commonly depicted as "aides" of Kali (the archetype of transcendence) and Mahakala (the Lord of Time). The sexual posture known as The Crow is, according to Tantra, most effective for mutual subtle nourishment, energy circulation and exchange. It has a potentizing effect on the sexual center of both partners and awakens the transcendental faculties of the mind.

Tantra teaches that the tongue is an important body terminal through which metaphysical energies can be channeled. When The Crow posture is practiced, the tongue of a man is to be used like a second Lingam. The Yoni-essences secreted during oral love-

making are easily absorbed by the mucous

membranes of the m o u t h and tongue .

Psycho-magnetic Yoni-waves emanate when a woman is sexually excited; these produce a

"field of force" that polarizes and discharges

with the head center of the male partner practicing The Crow. The polarizing effect of Yoni-waves causes the pineal and pituitary glands of the brain to release powerful secretions, which help to open up and focus the Third Eye. This is the mind's inner eye, the faculty of clairvoyance, which gives insight into both past and future. The polariz-

ing p o w e r of Y o n i - w a v e s has been

recognized since the dawning of Tantric occultism. It is a great secret, which the modern Tantric couple can use to open up the latent powers of the psyche.

According to Tantra, this type of Inverted Crow Posture is useful in directing sexual energy to the head center of the female partner, and can enhance clairvoyance. After a contemporary photograph.

When a woman is practicing The Crow with her partner, she should use her mouth as a second Yoni, imitating the contractions of her actual Yoni. Psycho-electrical Lingamwaves emanate when a man is sexually excited; a woman should endeavor to stimulate these waves and bring them to peak potential by the action of her mouth. This will cause her Kundalini to rise up to the head center, which will be experienced as an ecstatic thrill rushing up her spine. By bringing her partner to orgasm at this point, the Kundalini is nourished and fortified. An energy exchange takes place, invigorating the partners. The sexual secretions of the male
