are but facets of the one being, which takes different forms for different functions.

"A woman becomes one with Kali by coming to terms with her own awesome power of initiation. As an initiatress into the sexual mysteries of Kali, woman is the ultimate Guru of man. When hypocrisy, self-doubt, selfishness, and envy are eliminated from a woman's psyche, the deep intuitive wisdom of Kali emerges. Charged with sexual energy, Kali's wisdom acts as a potent initiation into the nature of reality.

"Kali is fearless and passionate; she does not hold back her favors. For a woman to truly embody Kali, she must get in touch with her own sexuality and dive deep into her unconscious mind. Kali's qualities are of this world and all other worlds. For a woman to become Kali, she must be able to take her man beyond mundane limitations, beyond convention, beyond the expected. During the dark fortnight of the moon and the time of her menstruation, woman naturally takes on some of Kali's qualities. In her Kali role, woman acts as the destroyer of illusion and the fulfiller of desire."

The goddess asks:

"What are the best Mantras for evoking Kali in the body of woman, O Shiva? What is Kali's special Yantra and her simplest form? Tell me the best ways of pleasing Kali and the special items for her worship. Tell me also why it is that Kali stands or squats on the reclining form of Shiva."

Shiva replies:

"O Insatiable Goddess! Many different Mantras have been used to evoke Kali! Most of them begin with the letter K. The short seed-syllables 'KLING' and 'KRING' are both highly effective, as is the longer Kali Mantra: 'OM - KANG - KALIKA - NAMAH . ' Kali's

name is a potent Mantra in itself, as is the seed-syllable ' H U N G , ' which expresses the

transcendental power of the pregnant voidness that underlies all phenomena. ' H U N G ' also awakens the Kundalini and helps one become united with Kali.

"Kali's special Yantra, or mystic form, is a series of five equilateral triangle, set one within the other and placed on an eight-petaled lotus. The five triangles of Kali's Yantra symbolize transcendence of the five main bodily senses and elements. The eight-petaled lotus indicates that Kali can be understood by focusing the higher emotions in the Heart Chakra. At the center of this Yantra one should visualize a small point, symbolizing stability of consciousness.

"The Yantra of Mother Kali is a potent symbol of meditation and can also be used as a protective talisman. Kali's simplest form is the Yoni of a woman in intense sexual excitement. The triangular shape formed by the pubic hair is Kali's basic Yantra, the open Yoni is Kali's ever-open invitation; the erect clitoris is like Kali's extended tongue, the sexual odors

are her power of enchantment, and the profuse moist secretions tell of Kali's all-bestowing nature. The Yoni of woman is unquestionably the original symbol of Mother Kali.

"Kali is pleased by devotion to her ideal qualities, by repetition of her Mantras, by visu-

alization of her Yantra and her various mystic forms. Kali is

pleased when

the

passionate

urge of earnest desire for union with her causes the vitality to

enter and rise

up

the Great

Axis, the central channel of the Subtle Body. Kali is pleased by the ecstatic experiences of man and woman in Tantric union. Kali is pleased whenever she is remembered. Kali is pleased with Shiva!

"Kali can be worshipped by anything offered without hypocrisy. Best of all, she likes sensual smells, such as sandalwood, musk, patchouli, and camphor. She also likes garlands of red flowers, rhythmic music, sensual dance, pure wine, and other intoxicants such as marijuana. Kali likes spontaneous laughter, devotional songs, passionate love, and an 'all or nothing' mental attitude. Kali can be worshipped directly through the body of woman. Tantric love-rites are the ideal way of worshipping Kali. During these rites the Yoni should be honored and selfless offerings made. When Kali awakens in the female partner, love takes on a renewed and exalted potency. Kali-power extends from eroticism to the beginning and end of time.

"Kali stands or squats on the reclining Shiva to show that she performs all his physical needs. Standing on Shiva, Kali is well prepared to take on any adversary and come to the aid of those in need. Squatting on Shiva, she sexually serves both her Lord and herself. In

the active role of physical love, Kali embodies the lustful mistress, the whore, the sex initiatress, Isis, the High Priestess. In the long Night of Darkness, before the beginning of another Age, Kali sports with Shiva in ecstatic dalliance, serving as a focus for his Yogic power of penetration."

The great goddess asks:

"O Lord of All Creatures! Tell me the meaning and different types of sexual initiation! What are the best times for practicing sexual initiations and other sexual rituals? What are the secret rites known as Chakra Puja, Bhairavi Chakra, and Yogini Chakra, and how should they be performed? Tell me, O Hero, what is their deepest meaning?"

Shiva, the Supreme Yogi, replies:

"Dearest One! Your questions are so direct. Numerous are the sexual initiations that I have given you. Innumerable are those that you have bestowed on me. The true meaning of sexual initiation is empowerment, a selfless act of giving from one to the other. The very first sexual initiation of all beings occurs during their exit through the mother's Yoni. The effect of this passage is to cause forgetfulness of past lives. During this first initiation the mother gives the whole world to her offspring, and in return takes away all painful memo - ries of the past. The result of the first initiation normally lasts until death's door.

"Other types of sexual initiation occur both consciously and unconsciously, over the course of a lifetime, during times of ecstatic love-making. Few are those who have not received some kind of sexual initiation from acts of physical love, but those who are con-

sciously aware of receiving sexual initiation during love-making are rare.

"Sex has the power of both illusion and Liberation, depending on the participants' degree of conscious awareness. Sexual initiation is the selfless bestowing of one's sexuality on another. When a person accepts a sexual act as a gift, exchanges take place on several different levels simultaneously. There is a physical exchange and blending of secretions, a psychophysical exchange of life energies and polarities, a psychological exchange of attitudes, a Karmic exchange through a convergence of destinies—and there is a spiritual exchange, a communion between spirits. On the highest level, all these exchanges add to the quality of

the couple.

"In all acts of sexual initiation there is a two-way flow, an exchange of potentialities; the initiator takes on some unresolved energies, conflicts, or Karmas, and the initiated receives energies, attainments, and positive Karmas. Sexual initiation is thus an act of deep responsibility. During high acts of Tantric sex Karmas and unresolved personality conflicts can be totally transcended. The Yoni becomes an alchemical crucible of transformation, and the Lingam becomes a magical wand with the power of turning one situation into another. Together, the Lingam and Yoni provide all the myriad sexual initiations. In the Tantric tradition, sexual initiation is bestowed by woman on man, by woman on woman or several women, by woman on a couple or several couples, by man on woman or several women, or by a couple on couples or several couples. The person or couple conferring sexual initiation is viewed as a transcendental Guru. True Tantric sexual initiations require the presence and active participation of at least one woman. Sexual initiation is not a free license for wild orgies, but rather the carefully prepared ground from which a transcendental spirituality can

blossom.

"The best times for practicing sexual initiations and other sexual rituals are during the

period between midnight and 3 a.m., during the

dark fortnight of the lunar month, espe-

cially on the eighth and fourteenth nights of the

dark of the moon, during a solar or lunar

eclipse, and at times of pure spontaneity when there is no doubt of success. A sexual initiation is successful when a person's life suddenly becomes changed for the better as a direct result of the experience. Unsuccessful sexual initiations cause havoc to the psyche of both the initiator and the person who has received the initiation.

"Chakra Puja, Bhairavi Chakra, and Yogini Chakra are all ritualized sexual acts performed by more than one couple. They can, however, take place on a purely allegorical level, either by the use of ritual substitutes or by the internalization of the whole process through the power of visualization.

CHAKRA PUJA

"All sexual Chakras

require the participants to form a circle and follow the guidance of a

leader couple or Guru. Chakra Puja is a simple Tantric term meaning 'circular worship'; it is

an evocation of the natural cyclical inclination of sexual energy, which seeks to return

through repeated cycles of activity. In the practice of Chakra Puja sexual energy is con-

sciously channeled and exchanged among all the participants. As the urge to orgasm is

approached by one couple, they are instructed to hold back, while the next couple starts the

ascent into ecstasy. A natural buildup of sexual energy is produced, creating an energy

vortex that empowers the inner psychic centers of Chakras of the participants and opens up

latent psychic powers. Correctly practiced, this type of Chakra Puja imparts spiritual ecstasy

and all the participants enter a new dimension, beyond this world.

"Bhairavi Chakra, as the name suggests, is the particularized worship of the goddess Kali

through a circle of sexually active participants. Three, five, seven, or nine are the ideal

numbers for a Bhairavi Chakra, though larger numbers sometimes participate in this ritual.

When there are nine worshippers in the Chakra, the energies of the nine planets are evoked

in turn and are then consciously focused on the resolution of the outstanding Karmas of the

participants.

BHAIRAVI CHAKRA

"Every Bhairavi Chakra should begin and end with the honoring of the female principle.

This can be done symbolically by representing the goddess Kali in an image, icon, or object

associated with her worship. Such a symbolic representation is placed at the center of the

circle before the commencement of the rite and is honored both before and after any sexual

activity. The Kali or Bhairavi principle can also be honored through the actual form of a

young girl who displays her nakedness at the center of the Chakra, but does not otherwise

participate in the rites,

except to receive garlands of flowers, sweet scents, incense, fruit,

food offerings, jewelry,

silks, and other honorific offerings. The Kali principle should also

be invoked and honored in each female participant. The correct practice of the Bhairavi

Chakra is extremely difficult to achieve, largely because of the human tendency to revert to

lower instincts at the first opportunity. Therefore a thorough practical knowledge of Hatha

Yoga and Tantric sexual techniques is essential to those who wish to participate in this

ancient

rite.

YOGINI CHAKRA

"The

Yogini Chakra can be understood on both an actual and a symbolic level. It is similar

to the Bhairavi Chakra, except that the participants are a single man with three, five, seven,

or nine women. The idealized Yogini Chakra outlined in several Tantras has the man with his immediate female partner at the center, surrounded by a circle of eight Yoginis, all of whom participate in sexual dalliance with the aim of releasing and circulating maximum energy. During the actual practice of the Yogini Chakra eight of the women bestow them selves on the man in turn, while the ninth, his principal or most advanced sexual partner, helps bring the eight others to full climax. The man should control his own orgasm until he has absorbed all the energies of the eight Yonis. He then bestows his potentized initiatory seed on the ninth Yogini. In the final act of selflessness the principal Yogini shares the conjoined sexual secretions as a sacrament, to be taken by all participants in the rite.

"The Yogini Chakra was at one time widely

practiced by kings and emperors, who used

it to acquire extraordinary powers and also to

cause the birth of exceptional children. A

more elaborate version of the Yogini Chakra was also practiced in the distant past, involving

dalliance of a single male with fifteen women, all of w h o m were adepts of sexual Yoga. Each

of the Yoginis embodied a lunar phase and had the power to bestow a particular quality of

spiritual

effulgence.

" O n

a symbolic level, the Yogini Chakra is well known to Tantrics. It is a dynamic

meditation on the lunar phases, with each phase visualized as a particular erotic goddess with specific qualities and attributes. Furthermore, each of the fifteen lunar goddesses is linked to the individual vowel sounds present in the normal Sanskrit alphabet. Each sound and visualization helps channel and transform the raw energy of the psyche, bringing it into harmonious communion with the deep intuitive wisdom of the Head Chakra."

The goddess says:

"O Beloved! So many questions awaken from within my open heart. So many answers begin to emerge from my expectant mind. Please give clarity and form to these great un knowns. Tell me the mystic meaning of both the consonants and vowels. H o w do they relate to the lunar Chakra of the Head and to the solar Chakra of the Navel? Tell me also how the fifteen-fold Yogini Chakra is structured, O wise and generous lover."

Heaving a great sigh, Shiva replies:

"All the consonants are but different aspects of Mother Kali and the vowels are her faithful attendants. The consonants and vowels are the energy and support of the entire phenom enal world. The thirty-five Sanskrit consonants arise from the expanding primordial fire. Ascending through the right channel of the Subtle Body, they are all known as Kali and their function is to provide raw energy waves or quanta, endowing the voidness with their qualities. Reaching the cool inner moon of the Head Chakra, they are distilled and subli mated into crystal-like forms. Taking on physical form they produce a whole realm of biochemical products, glandular secretions, and Wisdom-drops.

"The original fifteen Sanskrit vowels originate from the primordial waters, which are the product of cosmic contraction. Descending through the left channel of the Subtle Body, the vowels are known as Ali and their function is to modify the raw Kali wave-pulses, giving form to this dynamic transcendental energy As this cycle of activity is repeated over and over again, worlds are born and the sensual elements manifest. The consonants and vowels thus serve their cosmic function and are the beginning and end of all phenomena.

"Consonants blend with vowels through the contractive influence of the cooling inner moon of the Head Chakra. Vowels modify consonants through the expansive influence of the blazing inner sun. Contraction and expansion are the original cause of the worlds, just as woman and man are the cause of offspring.

"The Sanskrit vowel sounds are A, A, I, Ī, U, Ū, R, R, L, L, E, AI, O, AU, and AM; each is a seed-syllable of one of the fifteen Yoginis. The fifteen-fold Yogini Chakra is practiced with the participants located as shown. At the center is the Great Yogini, in eternal union with the Great Yogi."

Wide-eyed, the goddess replies:

"O Shiva! H o w wondrous is the nature of your mind! Surely those who practice the Yogini Chakra must be transported to other realms? H o w can lovers understand and realize the

THE ROLE OF THE GURU

Mystic form known as Chinnamasta, the "Egoless Yogini," the transcendental power of Will and Vision. The goddess sits on the back of lovers in sexual union and severs her own head, symbolizing the ego. Three streams of blood (life energy) flow from her neck, and her body is covered with serpents. This glyph tells of the taming of the Kundalini-energy and the three main channels of the Subtle Body. Two streams of blood are consumed by Varnini and Dakini, Chinnamasta's attendants, and she drinks a third stream herself. Behind, a brilliant sun shows the energy released during this act of psychic transformation. In the Hindu Tantric tradition Chinnamasta is associated with the Chinese mysteries. meaning of the mystic forms for themselves? Tell me also how spiritual longing can bring a person closer to the lasting experience of transcendence."

Shiva replies:

"Indeed in your question you intuit the essence of these mysteries. Those who are so initiated can truly travel through time and space. O Beloved, you are right to inquire about the Guru's role. You are wise to draw my attention to mystic forms. As for spiritual longing, it fuels the fire that burns up all psychic obstacles, just as our passion cuts through the limitations of time and space.

"The role of the Guru is total. A Guru is a guide who reveals teachings about the nature of reality and who provides an ideal or touchstone by which one brings oneself to completion. A Guru is a teacher who has perfected a particular attainment and who effectively shares it with others. To people who exist largely in a physical dimension, Gurus are generally parents, ancestors, close friends, teachers, employers, prominent figures, or children. Some even take non-human 'Gurus,' such as animals, fantasy ideals, inanimate objects, idols, talismans, and discarnate entities, as well as oracles, drugs, possessions, wealth, and prestige. Though most of these 'Gurus' have no lasting teaching, deluded beings serve them devotedly.

"Many real spiritual Gurus have lived since the beginning of time. Many live even in this day and their teachings cover the whole spectrum of spirituality. However, not all spiritual Gurus are Tantric Gurus and not all Tantrics are Gurus.

"Tantric Gurus are Yogis or Yoginis who have a high level of attainment and who teach a developed sexual-yogic technology for achieving Liberation within a single lifetime. The sexual-yogic technology taught by true Tantric Gurus is highly practical, direct, and transcendental. There are Tantric Gurus who have passed beyond the physical dimension, but who project mystic forms of themselves into the physical realms and teach humans through visions, dreams, and other paranormal means. These Gurus are known as Siddhas.

"The role of a Tantric Guru is to initiate, to bestow empowerments and blessings, to distribute spirituality, and to serve the evolution of other beings until the present Dark Age of Kali comes to an end. Tantric Gurus reveal their teachings in many different ways: through mystical forms, psychic projections, dreams, visions, sexual acts, ritual gestures, transcendental symbols, songs, allegories, music, dance, worship, and all the

other Sixty-four Arts.

"Tantric mystic forms are highly symbolic initiatory themes that directly express the otherwise hidden path to Liberation. It has truly been said that 'Tantra is continuity, the ultimate participation in the metaphysics of life.' In this sense, mystic forms are the Guru's continuity; they are the revealed expressions of the Guru's Tantric attainments . Mystic forms such a Chakrasambhara ('The Ruler of the Chakras'), Hevajra ('the Indestructible Lord'), Chin - namasta ('The Egoless Yogini'), and other Tantric 'deities' are but glyphs of specific Tantric teachings perfected by Gurus. In the Tantric way of life mystic forms are earnestly sought as vehicles of Liberation. They provide a transcendental focus for the emotions and the mind, a psychic glyph that is pregnant with meaning based on ecstatic experi-

ence, an 'ally,' and a secret friend.

"Lovers should try to evolve mystic forms for themselves, using their powers of erotic fantasy to augment their understanding of the Tantric teachings. Beginning with simple Tantric visualizations, they should embody the very prin-
