В целом метафора «разыгрывания» и идея возраста-как-достижения помогает выявить то, что в социологии возраста часто не признается: перформативную интерактивную работу по достижению возраста, эмоциональную работу, связанную со «становлением» и «бытием в» возрасте, а также стратегии, которые люди разрабатывают и используют, создавая и предъявляя себя как носителя определенного возраста. Понимание возраста как ситуативного, условного, согласованного и постоянно создаваемого во взаимодействии феномена создает фундамент для развития социологии возраста.
