В настоящее время Гвиана остается своеобразным уголком Франции в Южной Америке. Социально-экономические трудности в последние десятилетия неоднократно приводили к различным выступлениям в 1957 и 1961 годах, всеобщей забастовке в августе 1970 года, в которой участвовало 95 % трудящегося населения страны; всем памятны и массовые волнения весной 2017 года, по итогам которых Париж согласился выделить своему заморскому департаменту свыше 2 млрд евро. Среди гвианцев, как и полвека назад, по-прежнему распространено мнение о том, что «правительство не слышит голос Гвианы» [16], а в Париже сравнивают заморский департамент не иначе как с пороховой бочкой [12]. Однако разговоры о независимости носят ограниченный характер, а населению Гвианы гораздо выгоднее пребывать в статусе заморского департамента, формально относясь к территории Евросоюза, чем строить с нуля и фактически без финансовых дотаций свой суверенитет. Тем более что для Парижа потеря Гвианы с ее космодромом стала бы настоящей геополитической катастрофой.

The Problems of Formation of the Colonial System in the French Guiana in the Middle of XVIII - Early XX Centuries

The authors on the basis of historical and genetic method show the difficulties faced by the French colonizers in the development of Guiana in the middle of XVIII - early XX centuries. The history of French Guiana has not received comprehensive coverage in the national historical science. French Guiana is today the only territory owned by France in South America.
