Abstract
Criteria for the use of social networks in educational activity

The article deals with the aspects of the possibilities of using social networks in educational activities. The relevance of studying this issue is due to the fact that recently social networks are beginning to receive much closer attention in the context of changing attitudes towards educational organizations that are no longer able to avoid the very fact of the existence of social networks and are forced to adapt to innovations.
The historical aspects of the development of social networks as a public phenomenon are considered to fully understand the place and role of social networks in the learning process. It is noted that of the large number of existing social networks, it is the VK.com social network that has the greatest potential in Russia to use it as a platform to help educational activities due to the functionality of the services provided to it.
The criteria for the use of social networks in educational activities are formulated from three main positions: as a software product, as an information system, as a means of communication. The following set of such criteria is highlighted and justified.
1. Comfort and familiarity of the system for the target audience of users.
2. Large selection of communication methods and organization of interaction.
3. Unique user identification.
4. Filtering and processing regularly updated online information.
5. The possibility of organizing joint activities formed by a group of users.
6. Support for the continuity of the educational process.
7. Multimedia and demonstration support of the educational process.
The current practice of using social networks in educational activities is analyzed. Examples of the organization of the interaction of participants in the educational process using the services and functionality of the social network VK.com are given.
It is argued that social networks are a very important tool, and their use significantly simplifies communication between students and their managers, facilitates processes that, without their use, would require much more time for execution, improve the quality of the educational process as a whole.
