The article examines the main stages of the process of appearance of a new nomination due to semiosis. The items of nomination, being the linguistic signs, are formed according to general semiotic laws. However in linguistic semiosis apart from such traditional stages as a sign separation, the establishment of its distinctive features among similar ones, the selection of a corresponding wordform, based on word-formative, motivational and other peculiarities and cognitive function of a concrete linguistic system, the significant stage is the usalization of a lexical unit.
