SUMMARY
The book contains recollections, essay and materials concerning the life, scientific and public activity of the outstanding geneticist, the corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR I.A. Rapoport, who discovered chemical mutagenes. It also contains Rapoport's recollections about great scientists - his teachers and friends, documents reflecting the involvment of I.A. Rapoport in the most important events of his time: World War II, struggle agains lysenkoism, introduction of chemical mutagenes in agrecultural and microbiological selection, development of fundamental programs for practical solution of ecological problems, etc. The book is designed for historians of science, research workers, professors and students of biological institutions, and wide circle of readers.
