ГЛОСАРІЙ ВАЖЛИВИХ ТЕРМІНІВ
ТЕХНОЛОГІЯ (Technology). Застосуван ня знань до процесу виробництва мате ріальних ресурсів. Технологія перед бачає створення матеріального устат кування (наприклад, машин), що ви користовується у взаємодії людини з природою.
ТИСЯЧОЛІТНИЦТВО (Millenarianism). Вірування учасників певних видів релігійного руху, згідно з якими у найближчому майбутньому стануться катаклізмічні зміни, що знамену ватимуть прихід нової епохи.
ТОРГІВЛЯ ЗБРОЄЮ (Arms trade). Про даж урядом або приватними підрядни ками зброї з метою одержання при бутку.
ТОТАЛЬНА ВІЙНА (Total war). Військо ві дії, в які прямо чи опосередковано втягуються великі групи населення і в яких беруть участь сотні або й тисячі мільйонів військових.
ТОТЕМІЗМ (Totemism). Система релігій них вірувань, що приписує божествен ні властивості певному виду тварин або рослин.
ТРАДИЦІЙНІ ДЕРЖАВИ (Traditional states). Держави, в яких головною базою виробництва є сільське госпо дарство або тваринництво. Традиційні держави також часто називають «ран німи цивілізаціями».
ТРАНСНАЦІОНАЛЬНІ КОМПАНІЇ (Trans national companies). Ділові корпора ції, розташовані у двох або більше країнах.
ТРАНСФОРМАТИВНИЙ РУХ (Transfor mative movement). Суспільний рух, спрямований на реалізацію важливих процесів соціальних змін.
«ТРЕТІЙ СВІТ» (Third world). Слабороз винуті країни, в яких промислове ви робництво або фактично не існує, або розвинуте лише деякою мірою. У краї нах «третього світу» проживає біль шість населення світу.
ТРИВАЛІСТЬ ЖИТТЯ (Life expectancy). Середня кількість років, яку люди певного віку можуть сподіватися про жити в майбутньому.
УВ'ЯЗНЕННЯ (Incarceration). Розміщен ня осіб у фізично ізольованих органі заціях, таких як в'язниці або психіат ричні лікарні.

«УЗАГАЛЬНЕНИЙ ІНШИЙ» (Genera lized other). В теорії Г.Х. Міда — поняття, згідно з яким особа в процесі соціалізації переймає загальні ціннос ті певної групи або певного суспіль ства.
УНІВЕРСИТЕТ «ТРЕТЬОГО ВІКУ» (Uni versity of third age). «Третій вік» — це особи, що вийшли на пенсію. «Уні верситет третього віку» забезпечує на вчальні програми для таких осіб.
УРБАНІЗАЦІЯ (Urbanization). Розвиток великих і малих міст.
ФАКТИЧНІ ПИТАННЯ (Factual ques tions). Питання, що стосуються фак тичних справ (а не теоретичних або мо ральних проблем).
ФЕМІННІСТЬ (Feminity). Характерні форми поведінки, що їх очікують від особи жіночої статі у будь-якій куль турі.
ФЕМІНІСТСЬКИЙ РУХ (Feminist move ment). Рух, спрямований на захист прав та інтересів жінок у суспільстві.
ФОРДИЗМ (Fordism). Започаткована Генрі Фордом система виробництва, в якій було впроваджено конвеєр.
ФОРМАЛЬНИЙ ОПЕРАТИВНИЙ ПЕРІ ОД (Formal operational period). Згідно з теорією Піаже, стадія коґнітивного розвитку, впродовж якої дитина починає усвідомлювати абстрактні поняття та гіпотетичні ситуації.
ФУНКЦІОНАЛІЗМ (Functionalism). Тео ретичний погляд, згідно з яким сус пільні події можна найкраще тлу мачити з огляду на здійснювані ними функції — тобто той внесок, який вони роблять до розвитку суспільства.
ФУНДАМЕНТАЛІЗМ (Fundamentalism). Віра в повернення до буквального розуміння значень текстів Священно го письма.
«ХОЛОДНА ВІЙНА» (Cold war). Кон фліктна ситуація між Сполученими Штатами й Радянським Союзом за участі їхніх союзників, що існувала з кінця 1940-х років до 1990 року. Вона називалася «холодною війною», оскіль ки обидві сторони фактично ніколи не вступали у воєнне протистояння.
ЦЕНТРАЛЬНА ЧАСТИНА МІСТА (Inner city). Територія, до якої належать цен тральні квартали міста, котрі за свої-

ми характеристиками переважно від різняються від передмістя. У багатьох сучасних міських зонах «першого сві ту» після переміщення заможніших мешканців до приміських районів.
ЦЕРКВА (Church). Велика група людей, що належать до усталеної релігійної організації. Цим терміном також по значається місце, де відбуваються релігійні церемонії.
ЧОЛОВІЧА НЕЕКСПРЕСИВНІСТЬ (Male inexpressiveness). Труднощі, що їх від чувають чоловіки, висловлюючи свої почуття або розповідаючи про них іншим.
ШАМАН (Shaman). Особа, що, як вважа ють, володіє особливою магічною си лою; чаклун або знахар.
ГЛОСАРІЙ ВАЖЛИВИХ ТЕРМІНІВ
ШТУЧНЕ СЕРЕДОВИЩЕ (The created environment). Аспекти матеріального світу, що виникають через викорис тання створеної технології. Штучне се редовище — це конструкції, створені людськими істотами для обслугову вання своїх потреб — наприклад, шляхи, залізниці, фабрики, офіси, приватні будинки та інші будівлі.
ЯВНІ ФУНКЦІЇ (Manifest functions). Функції якогось аспекту або виду сус пільної діяльності, що є відомими осо бам, присутнім у певній ситуації сус пільного життя, і мають виконуватися ними.
ЯДЕРНЕ РОЗПОВСЮДЖЕННЯ (Nucler proliferation). Поширення ядерної зброї у всьому світі.
